Georgia's Domestic Relations Financial Affidavit, explained
Published October 28, 2026
In Georgia, the financial affidavit for divorce, alimony, child support and modification cases is set by Uniform Superior Court Rule 24.2, which says the affidavit "shall be under oath and in substantially the following form". Rule 24.2 was last amended effective August 30, 2018. Many counties post their own copy, and Georgia's child support agency posts a fillable one. This guide walks through the form and the rule's timing. It is general information, not legal advice; check your county's standing order and ask a lawyer about your case.
Items 1 to 3: who, summary and income
Item 1 names you, your spouse, the dates of marriage and separation, and the children, with year of birth only (the rule says no birth date should be included). Item 2 is a summary filled from the later items: gross monthly income, net monthly income, average monthly expenses and payments to creditors.
Item 3A, "Affiant's Gross Monthly Income", carries the instruction "All income must be entered based on monthly average regardless of date of receipt." Its lines:
| Group | Lines on the form |
|---|---|
| Work | Salary or Wages (attach the 2 most recent wage statements); Commissions, Fees, Tips; Income from self-employment, partnership, close corporations, and independent contracts (with a sheet itemizing your calculations); Bonuses; Overtime Payments; Severance Pay |
| Property and investments | Rental Income (net, with a sheet); Interest and Dividends; Trust Income; Income from Annuities; Capital Gains; Assets Which are Used for Support of Family |
| Benefits and payments | Recurring Income from Pensions or Retirement Plans; Social Security Disability or Retirement Benefits; Workers' Compensation Benefits; Unemployment Benefits; Judgments from Personal Injury or Other Civil Cases; Alimony and Maintenance From Persons Not in This Case |
| Other | Gifts (cash or other gifts that can be converted to cash); Prizes/Lottery Winnings; Fringe Benefits (if significantly reduce living expenses); Any Other Income (do NOT include means-tested public assistance, such as TANF or food stamps) |
You can attach Child Support Schedule A instead of completing 3A. Item 3B is "Affiant's Net Monthly Income from Employment (deducting only state and federal taxes and FICA)", with your pay period and exemptions.
Item 4: assets
Cash, stocks and bonds, CDs and money market accounts, each bank account, retirement accounts, money owed to you, tax refunds, real estate and vehicles with the debt owed on each, life insurance cash value, furniture, jewelry, collectibles and other assets. Columns record a value and any part you claim as a separate asset of the husband or the wife, with the basis: pre-marital, gift, inheritance, source of funds.
Item 5: monthly expenses and creditors
5A, "Average Monthly Expenses", has six groups: household (mortgage or rent, property taxes, homeowner/renter insurance, electricity, water, garbage and sewer, residential and cellular telephone, gas, repairs and maintenance, lawn care, pest control, cable TV, misc. household and grocery items, meals outside the home); automobile; other vehicles; children's expenses (child care, tuition, tutoring, lessons, school supplies, lunch money, allowance, clothing, diapers, medical, grooming, gifts, entertainment, activities, summer camps); the affiant's other expenses (dry cleaning, clothing, medical, gifts, entertainment, recreation, vacations, visitation travel, publications, dues, religious and charities, pets, alimony paid, child support paid for other children); and other insurance (health, dental, vision, each with the children's portion, life, disability). 5B lists payments to creditors with the balance due and monthly payment, and 5C totals the two.
When it is due
Rule 24.2 says that at least 5 days before any temporary or final hearing on child support, alimony, equitable division of property, modification or attorney's fees, each party serves the affidavit on the opposing party. Where child support is involved, the child support worksheet and schedules are served along with it. The rule also sets 5 days before mediation, and 5 days before the final hearing for an amended affidavit. Cases filed with a separation agreement or consent order settling everything but the divorce itself need no affidavits unless the court orders them. Only the last four digits of account numbers may appear, and on request and good cause the affidavit can be sealed. A county's standing order can set other times. For converting weekly pay, see Georgia's 4.35 weeks a month.
Financial Affidavit Numbers gives the monthly average for each 3A income line and each 5A and 5B expense line from your bank and card statements, with the transactions behind every figure. You decide every category and copy the figures onto the affidavit, which you swear to before a notary; it does not fill in the affidavit.
